3 May 2002 -- The Advanced Networks Colloquium Series presents "Energy Efficient Communication ", a talk by Prof. Ramesh Rao of University of California San Diego. This talk will briefly describe research and deployment initiatives in the recently established Cal-(IT)2. It will also discuss results pertaining to battery charge recovery, the problem of energy efficient packet scheduling in a wireless environment, and results on transmission scheduling. -- 11:00 am in Room 2460 A.V. Williams Building.

26 April 2002 -- The Advanced Networks Colloquium Series presents "Opportunistic Scheduling in Wireless Communication Networks", a talk by Dr. Ness Shroff of Purdue University. This talk will describe the "opportunistic" scheduling framework that incorporates scheduling schemes that exploit time-varying channel conditions and stochastically maximize the system performance.-- 11:00 am in Room 2460 A.V. Williams Building.

12 April 2002 -- The Advanced Networks Colloquium Series presents "Data Security and Authentication over Wireless Networks", a talk by Professor Agnes Chan of Northeastern University. This talk will discuss secure data communications over an imbalanced wireless network where clients are usually low powered and servers are the usual desktop computers. -- 11:00 am in Room 2460 A.V. Williams Building.

18 March 2002 -- The Maryland Hybrid Networks Center (HyNet) welcomes Ms. Patricia Rice as its new Administrative Assistant.

8 March 2002 -- The Advanced Networks Colloquium Series presents "High Performance, Robust and Secure Group Communication", a talk by Dr. Yair Amir of Johns Hopkins University. This talk will focus on the Spread toolkit and its secure version, Secure Spread. Spread is a messaging system that implements the group communication paradigm over local and wide area networks. -- 11:00 am in Room 0112 Chemistry Building.

1 March 2002 -- HyNet students and faculty will be presenting posters and demonstrations at Research Review Day. Topics will include research sponsored by NASA, CTA, and DARPA, among others.

22 February 2002 -- The Advanced Networks Colloquium Series presents "Architectural Considerations in the Design of WDM-Based Optical Networks", a talk by Dr. Eytan Modiano of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This talk will highlight recent work, as well as future research directions, in Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) networks. -- 3:00 pm in Room 2328 A.V. Williams Building.

22 February 2002 -- The Advanced Networks Colloquium Series presents "Algorithms for Resource Allocation and Congestion Control in Next Generation Satellite Networks", a talk by Dr. Eytan Modiano of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This talk will discuss new architectures for satellite and hybrid networks and algorithms for congestion control and resource allocation in these networks. -- 11:00 am in Room 2460 A.V. Williams Building.
