CLEO - the Cisco router in Low Earth Orbit

Abstract: A Cisco Systems Internet router was integrated into the UK-DMC disaster monitoring constellation imaging satellite and launched into space in September 2003. How that integration took place and how the spaceborne router performed over a year of on-orbit testing is described.
Biography: Lloyd Wood is a space initiatives manager in Cisco Systems' Global Defense, Space and Security group, where he is responsible for Cisco's first router in orbit. Lloyd spent some years modifying IOS, Cisco's router software, and contributing to the Internet Engineering Task Force. Lloyd gained his PhD from the Centre for Communication Systems Research at the University of Surrey, where he studied internetworking and satellite constellations.
